2016 Fibre to the Premises Petition.
To: Prime
Minister, Malcolm Turnbull and the Liberal/Coalition parties of Australia.
We, the undersigned, petition the rime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull and the Liberal party of Australia to instruct nbn(tm) to immediately cease making new contracts with suppliers and contractors for any work on the copper portion of the CAN (copper access network), and a to return to rolling out a fibre network comparable (i.e using the equivalent or latest technology or construction) to the original Fibre-to-the-premises design rules.
We petition that nbn(tm) fully compensate all suppliers and contractors for expenditure to date that is purely CAN (Copper Access Network) related.
We petition that nbntm also hire competent staff to enable nbn(tm) to return to building as much of the 93% footprint with the best fibre technology as is technically possible - and legal.

The Reason for the
petition.
When Tony Abbott and you announced the 'faster; sooner, more affordable' NBN, you gave no indication of what your 'fully costed' NBN would become' technically, even though Tony Abbott professed himself to be 'technologically agnostic''. Many, at the time, felt that the Australian public were being asked to 'buy a pig in a poke'. In government, Tony Abbott quickly announced that you were appointed 'to destroy the NBN' - a task you willingly accepted starting a half baked copper network design. Since then, we have seen the introduction of the MTM (MultiTechnology Mix - which is known colloquially, and quite aptly, as 'Malcolm Turnbull's Mess').
You then totally ignored a petition from 272,000 signatories - a significant number - asking you scrap your idea of the needs of 'the internet' for the future. The signatories were sadly disappointed by your response.

This
petition, along with the allied public campaign, is your last chance to salvage
the wreck of the telecommunications infrastructure that you have created,
and it could quite possibly put an end to your current government's control of
the parliament.
You can watch how this petition fares, albeit in an atmosphere of "we doubt whether you will take notice a second time". As the campaign says, "Think carefully" between now and the 2016 election. The campaign will be analysing the results of this petition over time, and will keep relevant MPs appraised of the progress results. (We do not intend to 'Do as you did to us', and we will not 'keep you in the dark'!)
